European or French cherry has a yellow-brown, then slightly red-brown, sometimes veined heartwood, often with green streaks, which contrasts only slightly with the narrow lighter-coloured sapwood. Hardness and density vary considerably.

European cherry has only been offered sporadically in recent years because it is less available. Applications are mainly in veneers, furniture and marquetry.
