Description

The trunks are 30-36 m high, maximum 45 m. The log is 15-25 m long and has a diameter of 0.6-0.9 m, rarely more than 1.2 m thick.

Aniegre is grey-white to pinkish-brown in colour and has a barely perceptible colour difference between the sapwood and the heartwood. In trade, a distinction is made between light-coloured (white) and pink-brown (red) wood.

Anegre fiddle back can be recognised by the "cross streaks" that can be seen in the veneer.

Aniegre is mainly used as veneer in the furniture industry, stained, coloured or printed as an imitation of walnut, cherry, maple and birch.
