Description

The trunks are 30-40 m high, maximum 50 m, with a diameter that varies, depending on age and height of the tree, from 0.6-1.0 m, maximum 1.5 m. The straight cylindrical log is about 20-25 m long.

Idigbo is closely related to Limba. The wood has a yellow to light yellow-brown colour. Sometimes the core has a slightly darker hue. Sometimes a brown striation appears. There is usually little or no difference in colour between the heartwood and the sapwood, which is 25-50 mm thick. The wood contains a yellow dye which, when wet, can rub off on substances that come into contact with it.
