Description

The trunks are 15-25 m high, maximum 30 m. Diameter 0.6-1.0 m, maximum 1.5 m. The log is 6-15 m.

Chestnut has a light to dark brown colour and is similar to oak, but is lighter and easier to work. Chestnut is ring-pored and has the same grain pattern as oak on the flat grain, but lacks the "mirrors" so characteristic of oak.

Chestnut can be sawn and planed without problems. It is a good alternative to oak.

Chestnut is suitable for exterior and interior joinery. It is also used for burial coffins, kitchen utensils, carving and turning, in the furniture industry and much more.
