Description

The logs have a height of about 30 m, maximum 40 m. with a diameter at breast height of 0.5 to 1.0 m.

Larch is a hardwood species whose heartwood shows color variations from light yellow-brown (Siberian larch), yellow-brown, pinkish to reddish brown. The sapwood is clearly distinguishable from the heartwood and is yellowish to dirty white in color. The growth rings are very clearly distinguishable. Each zone contains light-colored earlywood and dark latewood. The log sliced in crowns creates an attractive flame pattern, while the log sliced on quarter shows a clear stripe pattern. The smoking process gives larch wood a brown to dark brown color.

Resin can cause some problems when working the wood.

Larch has numerous applications : windows, doors, siding, flooring, rowboats, etc. As a veneer, it is naturally used in the furniture industry and is highly valued because it is easily stained.
